File under ‘hugely exciting’.
News broke overnight that UNFOLLOW, the new Vertigo series by myself and Mike Dowling (and team), is being developed for television by ABC, with The Originals showrunner Michael Narducci writing the pilot script.
Here’s the Hollywood Reporter article:
I can’t say much more here beyond what the article states, but I will say that I met with Michael while on a trip to Los Angeles in September and was hugely impressed by his knowledge and passion for the book, how he totally gets its themes. We’ve been emailing back and fore quite a bit and I genuinely couldn’t be happier with his approach and how he sees Courtney, Dave, Deacon and co. And The Originals is now onto, I think, Season 3 under his tenure, and remains hugely popular. DC’s TV arm are shepherding hit shows like Supergirl and The Flash. So…
UNFOLLOW #1 can be bought digitally here, by the way. If you want to get in on the ground floor.
And the DC February solicits came out this week, including UNFOLLOW #4. Matt Taylor’s gorgeous cover:
It was the Thought Bubble convention this past weekend in Leeds. Matt, Mike Dowling, Quinton Winter (our colourist) and I got to sit round a table together and actually, y’know, meet, as opposed to being faceless internet collaborators. That was cool. Such talented people working on this book.
Also in the DC February solicits was MARTIAN MANHUNTER #9. With Eric Canete’s moody atmosphere really capturing the tone of our second arc – which takes us to some quite different places, in more ways than one:
Going into writing this book, I wanted, more than anything, to get across the alien nature of J’onn. I think this image does that.
And, on that note, the finale of our first arc is out today, in MARTIAN MANHUNTER #6, by Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, Gabe Eltaeb and the team. Page One revealing Mr Biscuits’ taste in movies:

I’m told that, as of today, you can pre-order the GN collection of THE GRIEVOUS JOURNEY OF ICHABOD AZRAEL (AND THE DEAD LEFT IN HIS WAKE). My supernatural western from 2000AD, created with collaborators Dom Reardon, Mike Dowling (out first work together before UNFOLLOW), Antonio Fuso, Pete Doherty and others.
I like Ichabod a lot. It’s meant to channel alt-country music, Nick Cave and southern gothic writing via Terrence Malick (in six panel pages). And it’s good to see it collected.
You can pre-order it from the 2000AD store here: https://t.co/qNLCp1e7gx
At Thought Bubble I was on the panel for the 2000AD Pitchfest, and off the back of that I’ve promised to write a blog post talking a bit about basic storytelling structure. I’ll do that as soon as I’ve hit this deadline.
